Repair or replace?
Hard Treasure Valley water can be tough on a tank. These are the signs we look for first.
Under 8 years old, part failed
If it’s a pilot or igniter, thermocouple, gas valve, heating element, thermostat or relief valve, repair it. Most repairs run $165 to $395.
Water coming from the tank
If water is coming from the tank itself, at the bottom or a seam, replace it. A leaking tank can’t be repaired.
Over 10 years, rusty or rumbling
If it’s over 10 years old, making rusty hot water, or rumbling and popping after a flush, replace it.
